With more than a decade of hands-on experience designing, delivering and implementing manufacturing AR solutions in various industries, our team has learned some valuable lessons about what it takes to be successful in this unique and rapidly evolving industry.
Lesson #1: Provide solutions, not just technology
In our early years, we learned a lot of technical lessons (how to handle harsh environments, communicate to plant hardware, etc.). But, one of the biggest lessons we’ve learned along the way is that we needed to evolve and become more than just a technology company: we needed to be a true solutions provider.
Our technology is robust and mature. It has been proven effective in a wide variety of applications around the world, and in numerous manufacturing environments. As we’ve grown and matured over the past 14 years, we have gotten better at creating comprehensive solutions for our customers that happen to include AR technology, avoiding unnecessary technology and complexity in the process.
Lesson #2: Know your customers—and keep them informed and engaged
A core component of our DNA is that we understand the life of a manufacturer. Our business was built by manufacturing professionals with decades of experience on the shop floor and in manufacturing management. That comprehensive understanding of our customers’ needs, perspectives, priorities and challenges is critical to our ability to design solutions that are highly successful in manufacturing environments.
A key component of project success is active communication. We provide every new client with a detailed scope of work. We conduct a series of meetings to establish and ensure progress on key deadlines and pre-installation prep. We review installation logistics (including access, any required safety gear, etc.), and precise positioning details of our AR systems to make sure there are no surprises the day of installation.
We walk customers through the install ahead of time, using detailed drawings and schematics. We also set our customers up with our documentation and training resources well before the installation.
Lesson #3: Create and maintain a culture of continuous improvement
Every time we encounter a new challenge, we document it, determine what we can learn and how this information can be applied to other customers in the future. This is something all of our manufacturing clients do every day. Any successful high-volume manufacturing company studies its processes, looking for opportunities to improve and works to engineer solutions. It is rewarding when we can help contribute to that process.
